Project Mire in a nutshell
In 2017 in Geneva, the Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain (Cantonal Fund for Contemporary Art), a division of the Cantonal Office for Culture and Sport (Department of Social Cohesion), together with the Office for Urban Planning (Homeland Department) and Centre d'art contemporain Geneva, developed a public art project for the railway stations of the Léman Express line. The Fonds cantonal d'art contemporain was willing to showcase audio-visual works by contemporary artists. Project Mire* was born.
Mire pursues the following objectives:
Setting artistic interventions within urban development.
Installing art works in stations to accompany public transport.
Connecting the wider public with contemporary art.
Provide enriching and appreciated added value to the travelling experience.
Programming regular renewal of art made by established and emerging artists.
Showcasing works from the local heritage belonging to the Funds for Contemporary Art of the Canton and the City of Geneva.
* Mire has several meanings: a goal, a target, a focal point, a device for aiming at or measuring distances, a control process for optical instruments or quality setting for image broadcasting. All meanings of Mire refer to the action of viewing and watching.
