Founded in 1974, Centre d’Art Contemporain Geneva is an exhibition venue and a forum for discussion and thought. Both a pioneering and a benchmark institution on the Swiss and international art scene, the Centre addresses key issues of our times.
As a space for research and experimentation, the Centre reaches out to all audiences with ambitious projects that involve all areas of contemporary practice – installations, music, painting, performance, photography, sculpture, dance, drawings, or video art. It also features exclusive meetings and screenings at its own Cinema Dynamo, with the Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement as a culminating point. The Centre’s dynamic and vibrant offerings, including temporary exhibitions and educational, inclusive cultural events under innovative formats, contributes to promoting artistic creation and the general public’s active participation in contemporary culture.
Throughout its 45-year history, the Centre has presented over 300 exhibitions by national and international artists, contributed in discovering emerging talent or in rediscovering established figures, hosted artists residencies, and organized a large number of educational and socio-artistic activities.

Fonds d'art contemporain de la Ville de Genève (FMAC)
Founded in 1950, the Fonds d'art contemporain de la Ville de Genève (Contemporary Art Fund of the City of Geneva) has the dual purpose of strengthening art in the public space, while supporting and promoting practicing artists in Geneva through grants, as well as through the acquisition of works that will become part of a public collection. Almost 300 artistic interventions have been integrated into urban space and architecture since the Fund was created, showcasing a variety of approaches and experiments in contemporary art, across all generations and practice areas. The collection of movable artworks features over 4100 items, and reflects not only the history of artistic creation in Geneva and its vibrant scene, but also its interaction with Swiss and international art. The collection also includes a significant video art section, i.e. the André Iten Fund, a legacy from Centre pour l’Image contemporaine de Genève (Centre for Contemporary Image – Geneva), which covers the production of the most influential international art movements since the 1960s.
Since 2022, the FMAC coproduces two new commissions yearly for the Mire program.
