Cantonal Fund for Contemporary Art

The Cantonal Fund for Contemporary Art is a division of the Cantonal Office for Culture and Sport, which is itself part of the Department of Social Cohesion. It is a player and a witness to the thriving art scene in Geneva. It has a significant heritage-protection mission, which consists in building and managing Geneva canton’s collection of contemporary art and the commissioning that allows integrating works of art into urban developments and buildings of the canton administration. It is also a tool for art sponsorship, supporting the production of works and awarding scholarships to emerging artists, and prizes to art venues. In the field of public commissioning, the Cantonal Fund for Contemporary Art regularly works with municipalities. In the past, works of art were mainly displayed in buildings, whereas today, artistic interventions are often carried out in urban spaces. The Cantonal Fund for Contemporary Art initiated project Mire, then developed it with the Office for Urban Planning of the Homeland Department, and with Centre d’art contemporain Geneva. In terms of public spaces, Mire has been its most ambitious art programme to this day. Further information on www.fcac.ch
